2-11 Fighting is any attempt by a player or nonplayer to strike or engage a player or nonplayer in a combative manner unrelated to football. Included are attempts to strike with the hand(s), arm(s), leg(s) feet or foot, whether or not there is contact. The four examples of fighting pictured all call for a 15 yard penalty and disqualification.
2-11 Even if a punch fails to hit the mark (PlayPic A) or an attempted kick miss (PlayPic B), the player attempting to contact the opponent is guilty of fighting. Fighting is a personal foul, as opposed to an unsportsmanlike conduct.
