THE WEEKLY BULL - JULY 15, 2013

Scrimmages – Getting us all together, as usual, will be Tom Ables!  Schools must keep Tom informed of any last second changes to your scrimmages as he must relay that info to the assigned crews.  Tom can work miracles but let’s not put him to the test!

Important Phone Numbers:

Tom Ables – Assigner – assignsdcfoa@aol.com

Steve Coover – Complaints & Rules

Jim Sibbet – Appeal of Ejections

Coaches Clinics Mostly Scheduled! – As you are almost all aware, the SDCFOA takes advantage of regularly scheduled conference meetings to meet face-to-face with the coaches and go over the new rules and areas of emphasis.  We view this as an important opportunity to discuss changes to the rules of the game and to ask/answer questions regarding these changes.  Here is the list of meetings as it stands today:

Grossmont/East County – Monday July 15th, 1:00 pm at Monte Vista HS Library

Sweetwater/SouthBay – Monday  July 29th, 6:00 pm at Chula Vista HS Performing Arts Center

Smaller/Private Schools – Tuesday August 6th, 5:00 pm at Francis Parker HS

North County – Monday August 19th, 6:30 pm at Del Norte HS (Theater?)

City Schools - TBD

JV and Freshman Coaches – Do they know the new rules for 2013?  Schools can help by passing along this important information to all coaches at the JV and Frosh levels.

Instructional Program Kicks Off – This week we have over 300 officials attend our opening meeting for the season.  Officials are expected to continue with their off-season study sessions and prepare themselves for the season.  Along with their individual preparation, we offer 10 formal meetings during the year as we strive for CONSISTENCY in our officiating.

Bonus Meetings – This year we are offering 4 additional “bonus meetings”, one per position on the field.  This Wednesday July 17th, Manuel Alonzo, long time PAC 12 official and bowl games veteran, will be leading an on-the-field and in-the-classroom session for all flank officials (not 1st and 2nd year officials who must meet in their regular classes).  I encourage all flanks to attend this session which starts at 7:00 pm in room S8 (where the 1st year officials meet in the back of West Hills HS).  You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn from one of the absolute proven BEST at his position – the flanks!

Next Regular Meeting July 24th - We will be breaking into our regular crews with “fill in officials attached” to conduct a thorough pre-game as we prepare ourselves mechanically.  You can expect about 45-60 minutes for this portion of the meeting.  Be prepared for this meeting by reviewing our 2013 Mechanics Manual, review the Mechanics Summer Study Materials, and get out your pre-game outline.
