The Spirit of the SDCFOA “Junior Garcia”- SENT FROM TOM ABLES 11/19 to me and Kevin Hawes…”At 3:10PM today, I had a text from Craig Gustafson that the 2nd Year official assigned to the Chain Crew tonight at Henry was in the ER with a broken foot which had just happened at work. After trying 5 Y1/Y2 guys I got mostly no answers and one out of town. I called Junior Garcia who said with a smile, "Of course I'll do it. It's a chance to watch a football game and watch good, young officials". It's nice to know that there are guys who can put their egos aside and help out. Junior is the only active official who has been a member longer than I have.” - Tom Ables
Congratulations on a Great Season SDCFOA! – As we finish up the CIF San Diego Section playoffs this Friday and Saturday, it is a good time to congratulate everyone and thank you all for making the 2021 season a great one! We all worked hard and prepared each week to go out and do our best for our fellow crewmates, the teams, the game itself, and for the fun! You get it! This is not just a paycheck but a chance to be a part of a great group of friends and colleagues, working in synch to officiate the game in the absolute best interest of a fair game…and WE even get paid! What a blessing! See you in 2022!
How Can We Get Even Better? – Three things come to mind: First, stay in shape or improve our conditioning. Second, reflect on your season. Then list a few items that you can work on. Third, get into the rule book. Studying the rule book is time consuming, and the off season provides us with the time to “dig into” the rule and case books.
How Can the Association Get Better? – We will be offering an on-line survey over the holidays. Take a moment to give us some constructive feedback. How we do business changes each and every year based upon the consensus of good ideas. Whether it be the work of the board, or the officers (secretary, treasurer, instructional chair, or assignors) this is your opportunity to share your thoughts about how we can improve. Thank you!
CIF Semifinals Crews – The feedback from schools and coaches has been extremely positive! We’ve had a great playoff so far and a huge “Thank You!” to Tom Ables for creating such great crews in all divisions. Now we move on to the big Friday/Saturday doubleheaders of the CIF San Diego Section Championships for Divisions 2, 4 and 5 on Friday night and Divisions 1 & 3 Saturday night. Here are the assigned crews. See you at Escondido High School in the end zone suite! Some light snacks and beverages will be provided in the Suite.
Thank You Brian Bortness, Scott Carroll, Tony Shaw, John Isham, Tyler Lindsay, Ted Schiess, and Joe Magnuson– This crew did a spectacular job of officiating the CIF Open Division Championship Game last Saturday night.
